Reflection

My research throughout these particular set of experiments supported the ideas that I wanted to develop. Particularly, in researching Louis Bourgeois- when I came across her 'Cell XXVI' pieceI was reminded of the texture of duvets and thick, dense fabrics. This is what inspired me to use the duvet as a texture in my experiments. I felt that these experiments helped me to discover processes that are best applied when looking at different density textiles. For example because of the dense nature of the duvet, the only successful way I could work with it-was to build it on top of each other- forming dense, thick forms and shapes whereas when working with the tights and nylons- the studies were more successful when the material was stretched, pulled and weighed down in suspension. I was also able to d some calculations involving tensile modulus that will be beneficial t how the rest of my project progresses.

Whilst I'm not entirely happy either the aesthetics if the outcome and how it looks- I am happy that I was able to achieve my objective of building a freestanding stricture using textile material. This was supported mostly by my research done on Mrinalini Mukherjee and her work with large woven and crocheted structures using natural plant fibre.
